As 2023 comes to an end, we reflect on all of the things that have happened moving our community forward, but also on all of the things (and there are a lot!) that we continue to need. The evidence is clear. We need more in 2024, and we need your help to do it! We are starting 2024 off focusing on timely action for a continuously compounding, mass disabling event. Despite officials telling us that the pandemic is over, we see COVID-19 cases, and therefore Long COVID cases, continuing to increase. We are seeing a massive uptick in hospitalizations, in secondary infections, and poor immune response to a variety of infections and illnesses due to the long-term impacts of COVID-19, further compounding the above concerns. Four years in, and we still do not have public messaging from our health officials on Long COVID, and millions are still unaware of the consequences they, or their families, may face as a result of COVID-19 infection. We need your help! Below are several ways in which you can (1) Get involved with C19LAP, and (2) support our advocacy efforts without formal involvement! We invite you to explore each opportunity and participate in as many as you can (pacing yourself of course) to help us continue to advance our mission and improve the lives of those impacted by Long COVID.

National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine A National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine committee has been tasked with examining the current U.S. Government (USG) working definition for Long COVID and related technical terms. This initiative is sponsored by the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response and the Department of Health and Human Services. This summer, a symposium was held to explore literature on definitions for Long COVID in the United States, including but not limited to, definitions that are currently used for clinical care, research, surveillance, and health communication, and to learn about challenges and barriers due to currently available definitions for Long COVID, and seek input from various stakeholder groups relating to refinement, dissemination, and implementation of a definition for Long COVID. C19LAP founder & president Karyn Bishof was elected to serve as a member to this incredibly important and impactful committee. You can learn about the committee here and watch the symposium here.
